The Magic Behind Family Meals
November 30th, 2008
There will be fun and interactive things for people of all ages to do throughout the two hours. Come whether you are a family of one or ten! Come for a short time or the entire time.
Wander over to the corner and listen to Lou Rawlins read the story of Everybody Cooks Rice by Norah Dooley. It is an interesting look at how the whole world treats food, how inclusive meals keep families strong, and why family meals are as much about meetings with people we love as they are about good food. There will be books for all ages in Lou’s corner to sit and read.
Marshview Middle School Grade 5 students will be our scientists doing experiments about digestion and personal hygiene in the kitchen. Learn how to draw your own silhouette. Learn how to create your own rice bowl (and then eat it); try your luck at picking up beans with chopsticks! You can share your family traditions around meals by drawing or writing them on a quilting square for our Tantramar Family Resource quilt. There will also be lots of nutrition handouts, recipe books, a music corner, a short presentation of how family mealtime can improve your child’s performance at school and lots, lots more to do!
Our family snack, picnic style, will include milk donated by Northumberland Dairy (and maybe a few two legged ants!)
Join us Sunday, November 30th, 2008 from 2:30 to 4:30 P.M. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Sackville (across from the Swan Pond). No admission charge. Lots of room and many friendly people. Please come see!
